The two-day conference at The Reynolds Journalism Institute was created to support community newspapers in their efforts to innovate and sustain their businesses. Joy Mayer, a former editor of mine (and current friend!), began the conference with a keynote presentation. Mine provided the bookend.
The organizers wanted me to specifically talk about my digital work in community news at The Elkart Truth, which was a fun trip down memory lane as I pulled up old screenshots, spreadsheets and presentations from my time at The Truth. And it’s always a delight to share the good work of former colleagues (like Tim Vandenack, Bill Beck and Sarah Welliver, among others).
After several presentations packed with good ideas and suggestions in the social and digital spaces, attendees needed a session that contained information on how to actually execute on those goals once they returned to their newsrooms. Hopefully my presentation delivered!
